Asset Hierarchy

An asset hierarchy is the structured way of organizing equipment, systems, and components within a facility to show how they relate to one another. In maintenance management, it helps technicians quickly identify where an asset fits—from the plant level down to individual parts. For example, a plant may contain production lines, each line has machines, and each machine has subcomponents. A clear hierarchy makes it easier to locate assets, track work orders, and understand dependencies. This improves troubleshooting, preventive maintenance scheduling, and spare parts management, ensuring nothing gets overlooked.
