LOTO (Lockout/Tagout)

Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) is a critical safety procedure in maintenance management used to protect technicians from unexpected machine start-ups or the release of hazardous energy during servicing. The process involves isolating energy sources—such as electrical, hydraulic, or pneumatic—by applying a lock to keep equipment in a safe “off” state and attaching a tag to indicate who is performing the work. LOTO ensures only the assigned technician can restore operation once maintenance is complete. Following LOTO procedures helps prevent accidents, injuries, and equipment damage, making it an essential practice for safe and compliant maintenance operations.
